Exposure 3.0: New Voices in Australian Photography
Mary-Lou Orliyarli Divili, Maria Fredericks, Nuriah Jadai, Maria Maraltadj

An exhibition comprised of new photographic artworks by four First Nations Kimberly artists created during PCP’s ongoing mentoring program, Exposure: New Voices in Australian Photography.

Exposure 3.0 reveals stories about First Nations People, by First Nations People. The theme of healing is delicately interwoven across each of the series, with personal narratives examining relationships to Country, people, and themselves.

The Exposure program respected our time and space to make art. Making art on my own Country, is a feeling that I cannot describe. It’s where I’m from. Where I belong. It belongs to me. I could tell my story and be connected with Country.
— Nuriah Jadai, Exposure program artist.

Capturing Starlight
Chloe Bartram

Capturing Starlight follows the 1922 Wallal Solar Eclipse Expedition. The expedition observed the eclipse while verifying Einstein's Theory of General Relativity. Archival documents of its findings were previously displayed at the State Library of Western Australia in commemoration of its one-hundredth anniversary.

Bartram ponders the intersection of art and the archive and what can be suggested through the re-enactment of historical archival material. She queries, 'is the accessibility of the archival photograph increased when it is interpreted beyond its primary function to inform and remember?'

Through reflecting on scientific observations, Capturing Starlight illuminates what is unseen in the archive. Bartram incorporates fragmentation into unfolding the project, between what is visible, what is observed, and the very uncertainty that is within this dichotomy. Capturing Starlight encourages us to actively engage with the archive, allowing for play and analysis of the material.
