OFFMARKET Gallery is proud to present its inaugural exhibition: Back to Memphis Milano: a Design Revolution.
What did Karl Lagerfeld and David Bowie have in common? They were both collectors of the vibrant and eclectic works known as the Memphis Group.
OFFMARKET Gallery inaugural exhibition will showcase works by the iconic members of the Memphis Group, a groundbreaking artistic movement that redefined the boundaries of contemporary design: Ettore Sottsass, George Sowden, Nathalie du Pasquier, Marco Zanini, Michele de Lucchi. Notably, the collection will feature an exclusive display of original artworks, vintage posters, jewellery and visionary furniture provided by MOBILIA, emphasizing the group's profound impact on the global design landscape.
The Memphis Milano movement has recently enjoyed a resurgence with contemporary art collectors. Exhibitions held at Pompidou Museum in Paris, MAD Museum in New York, Triennale Milano or Modern Art Museum in Shanghai are testament to the movement's legitimacy in modern art.
The collection includes among its more prominent pieces a large textile art by Nathalie du Pasquier designed in 1984 that was part of fashion designer Karl Lagerfeld’s personal Memphis collection and the centrepiece of his Monaco apartment design.
The gallery will also showcase more recent limited-edition silkscreens of renowned Milan-based artists Nathalie du Pasquier and George Sowden.
