Join us for a talk and “walkshop” on ideas for improving public spaces for women and girls.
PIA WA will share the ACT Government’s Gender-Sensitive Urban Design Framework and Toolkit, created to help build a community where women and girls are safe and supported to participate.
The Toolkit serves as a comprehensive guide to achieving best-practice urban design outcomes for the public realm, establishing standards for public spaces that are equitable, inclusive, and safe with particular attention to the needs of women, girls, and gender-diverse individuals.
This will be followed by a guided WALKSHOP through a Perth public space, encouraging participants to think in terms of women, girls, and gender-diverse users and their journeys and share experiences and ideas for improving public spaces for women and girls.
Speakers:
Anna Chauvel
A city shaper, landscape architect and urban designer, Anna has shaped her design approach around creating public spaces that are sociable, inclusive, equitable, and sustainable.
Anna recently spearheaded the GSUD Framework and Toolkit for the ACT Government, and has emerged as an advocate for a better understanding of how women and gender-diverse individuals experience urban spaces and how design can be tailored to better meet their needs.
Emma Snow
A dynamic placemaker and Executive Director of Town Team Movement, Emma’s transformative journey with Town Team Movement began when she volunteered as the co-convenor for one of Perth's pioneering 'town teams,' Creative Maylands.
Since joining Town Team Movement, Emma has played a pivotal role in incubating and guiding numerous town teams to success. Her commitment to placemaking and community engagement has inspired meaningful transformations in urban environments across Australia.
Suzie Zuber
A creative urban strategist, Suzie has over twenty years of experience in the building design industry in London, Hong Kong and Perth.
Through her work in community-focused urban design, research and placemaking Suzie has gained unique insights into how neighbourhoods should be designed to be safer, inclusive and enjoyable spaces for multiple generations, with a particular focus on the needs of the often silent generation – teens and young people.
Iwan Isnin
Senior Consultant, Place and Design at element, Iwan will be joining us in the evening for the streetwalk.
Iwan is a highly skilled urban designer who is passionate about creating places with good design principles that are inclusive and human-centric, integrating technology, culture, and nature. With a solid background in architecture and planning and six years of experience in private consultancy, he possesses a wealth of experience in designing and delivering urban projects of various scales, scopes, and complexities across a range of urban contexts.
