Presented by Perth Design Week in collaboration with “My Home”
We know there are at least 9,000 people experiencing homelessness on any night in Western Australia. Each year, WA’s specialist homeless services assist over 24,000 people.
These people could be rough sleeping on the streets and in parks, living out of their car, couch surfing with family and friends or staying in squats, boarding houses, temporary hostels and lodges.
Refuges, halfway houses and emergency shelters are only a temporary day-by-day support for homeless people.
There is an urgent need for permanent, low-cost housing to enable homeless people to get back on their feet and establish a decent quality of life.
"My Home" brings together stakeholders, sources funding, procures land and then manages each project. The model is a proven success. There is already one “My Home” development completed and several more in progress.
Join us to hear from architect and “My Home” founder Michelle Blakeley, in conversation with freelance writer Helen Shield, and learn how Michelle is creating homes for people who are homeless.
Michelle Blakeley is an Architect and Director of architecture practice, Michelle Blakeley, Architect.
