20 YEARS OF THE WA GOVERNMENT ARCHITECT
Presented by Perth Design Week. With 2024 marking the 20th anniversary of the appointment of a Government Architect in WA, we looked back on the past 20 years in a conversation with people who have served in the role.
The conversation was led by award winning journalist Victoria Laurie, with the panel including:
Steve Woodland (Government Architect 2009 - 2013)
Geoff Warn (Government Architect 2013 - 2020)
Rebecca Moore (Government Architect 2020 - 2023)
Warren Kerr AM (former State and National President of the Australian Institute of Architects)
Victoria also shared insights from our first Government Architect, Geoffrey London (Government Architect 2004 to 2009), and our most recently appointed Government Architect Emma Williamson.
The Government Architect plays a crucial role in shaping an integrated approach to planning, architecture and urban design in order to enhance and improve our built environment. The creation of Design Value increases amenity, supports economic development, and enhances liveability for all residents of our State.
The contributions that these positions have made to the built environment across the country have been significant.
