Presented by Lawson Flats and Nic Brunsdon Studio.
The largest wave of building and infrastructure growth is expected to double the global building floor area by 2060. In Perth, we anticipate accommodating an additional 1.5 million people by 2050.
Discussing the social and ecological challenges of this growth and envisioning a post-carbon future, the panel explores possible transformations for the city through retrofitting, infill development, shifting to a walkable city, focusing on public and social housing, and restoring habitats for biodiversity.
Examining the role of architecture in these transitions, the talk foresees the practice as an act of care—for existing infrastructures, for people, and for the environment—maintaining and repairing futures.
